The yield strength of thin copper films on Kapton

چکیده
Thin films of copper, with thickness between 0.1 and 3 mm, were vapor-deposited on 12.7 or 7.6-mm-thick polyimide ~Kapton! substrates. They were tested in a microtensile tester in which the strain is measured by optical diffraction from a microlithographically applied grid. The Young modulus is independent of film thickness and is about 20% below the value calculated from single-crystal elastic constants. The yield stress depends strongly on the film thickness and is fit by sy51161355(t) , where t is the thickness in mm and sy is in MPa. The microstructure of the films was studied by focused ion-beam microscopy. The grains are heavily twinned and the microstructural lengths ~grain size, twin spacing, twin width! depend only weakly on the film thickness. A substantial part of the yield stress is therefore attributable to an effect of the film thickness, such as that predicted by strain gradient plasticity theory. The lower limit and some estimates of the thickness contribution to the yield stress are calculated. The estimated characteristic length of strain gradient plasticity theory is 0.6 mm for these materials. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1644634#

Conductive copper sulfide thin films on polyimide foils
Kapton polyimide is known for its high thermal stability, >400 ◦C. Copper sulfide thin films of 75 and 100 nm thickness were coated on DuPont Kapton HN polyimide foils of 25 μm thickness by floating them on a chemical bath containing copper complexes and thiourea. The coated foils were annealed at 150–400 ◦C in nitrogen, converting the coating from CuS to Cu1.8S. The sheet resistance of the ann...
متن کاملEffect of Thickness on Properties of Copper Thin Films Growth on Glass by DC Planar Magnetron Sputtering
Copper thin films with nano-scale structure have numerous applications in modern technology. ZnO and Cu doped[1] (CZO) thin films were prepared by radio frequency sputtering. The structural and optical properties of thin films were investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), optical spectrophotometer, and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. ZnO thin films showed crystalline and micro-stress defects in the crystal lattice. Annealing of CZO thin films increa...
